How Do I?
Can I camp at Lloyds Lake?

There is no overnight camping allowed at Lloyds lake.

Can I dump trash in the City Dumpster?

No, the dumpster next to the city building is for those who have an account with the City specifically for that dumpster. 

Can I get a dumpster for construction waste?

 No, we do not allow construction waste in trash cans or dumpsters. We ask you to please take it out to the landfill. If it ends up in your trash can or dumpster it will not be picked up.

Can I have more than one trash can and what's the cost?

Yes, you can have more than one trash can. Each additional trash can is $20.50 a month. Call Monticello City Office at (435) 587-2271 and we can help you out.

Can I rent the kitchen at the Hideout?

Yes, it is only available on weekends, and we must get special permission to do so because it is shared with the Senior Center.

Can I speak at a City Council or Planning Commission meeting?

 Yes, during the public comment time you may address the Council for approximately 3-5 minutes. If you need more time to speak on the matter, contact the City Recorder and ask about being put on the agenda. 

Culinary Water Valve

When you need your culinary water turned on, please call Monticello City Offices at (435) 587-2271 for us to turn it on for you. If you turn on the valve and it breaks, you are responsible for repairs. If we turn it on and it breaks, then we are responsible for repairs. PLEASE DO NOT TURN YOUR WATER ON OR OFF YOURSELF FOR ANY REASON.

DMV

The DMV is with the county. You may reach the DMV by calling (435) 587-3221 

Do I need a fence permit?

No, but we ask you to follow code and to call Bluestakes at 811 to have everything marked before you put begin digging. Here is a link to the fence code Offical Website of Monticello, Utah - FENCE GUIDELINES (evogov.com) 

How come when it snows, we get plowed in?

The City and County plow the roads. They are not allowed to plow personal driveways. It's their job to make 2 passes per road to make them drivable. They plow the whole County to keep school bus routes and emergency routes open.

How do I apply for a Business License?

How to close my city account?

Call Monticello City Office at (435) 587-2271 to close an account. 

How do I contact someone after hours?

In the event of a water line break or sewer back-up you may call our on-call technician.

How do I get on the agenda?

You contact the City Recorder; she will have you email her a detailed account of what you would like to discuss. Once approved by the Mayor you will be contacted. 

How do I look up my bill?

Go to Xpress Bill Pay, and put in your account number. If you have not already set up an account with Bill

How to put my utilities on hold?

Call the Monticello City Office at (435)587-2271 and we can put your utilities on hold while you are out of town for the season. There is a fee of $25.00 to turn the water off.

How do I register for sports?

How do I report a complaint?

On our main page, there is a Report a Concern button where you can file a complaint. You must be willing to provide your name and personal contact information for the City to be able to respond.

How do I reserve a facility?

How do I request information?

How do I set up a will call?

Call the Monticello City Office at (435) 587-2271 to set up a will call, and sanitation will get your dumpster within a weeks time.

If something is broken on my trash can, can I get it replaced?

Yes, call the Monticello City Office at (435)587-2271 and we can put in a work order to replace it. If it has been broken multiple times, because of neglect to pull it off the streets you will be billed for a new trash can.

Landfill Hours

Why can't I water between 10am and 6pm?

If you water in the afternoon, especially during the summer, the heat and sun are at their peak and the plant's water will evaporate instead of absorbing into the soil and roots. If you water when it's windy all the water will be lost to evaporation.

What do I do if the phone goes unanswered?

The office can get extremely busy please leave a message, with the party of your choice, and they will get back to you. All general messages go directly to the Recorder's email.

When do I need to get a Building Permit?

A building permit must be obtained from the Building Official before beginning construction.
Investigation fees are charged in addition to the permit fees, If work is started before obtaining a permit. The investigation fee shall be equal to the amount of the permit fees as set by the Monticello City Consolidated Fee Schedule.
Building permits are required for all new construction, before moving a trailer or pre-built home onto a lot and for any addition, remodeling, or demolition.

When is City Council?

City Council is held every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Located on the main page is our Calendar with all the dates listed for the year.

Where in town am I allowed to run a short-term rental?

If you are to do a short-term rental you will need a business license for short/long-term business license and fire inspection. The fire inspection can be set up by calling Monticello City Office (435) 587-2271

What time does the trash truck start their route?

7:30 am  Residential trash pickup days are Monday and Wednesday, commercial garbage is picked up on Friday only. Contact the city office to find out what day you are picked up. 

If your trash can was not emptied: It was not put out on time, It was blocked, There was stuff in the trash can that we will not dump (construction, tree limbs, electronics, etc.)

Where to fill up culinary water and how much?

 You can fill up on the south Side of Public Works Building. It's a coin-op $12.50 per 1000 gallons. Treated water

When should I water?

10pm to 7am: Watering in the morning before 10am is the best time for your lawn. It's cooler and winds tend to be calmer so water can soak into the soil and be absorbed by the grass roots before it can evaporate.

Why was my trash not dumped?

Sanitation starts the garbage route at 7am. There are several reasons your trash can may not have been picked up. 1) Your trash can/dumpster was blocked by a vehicle or too much snow 2) It wasn't out by 7 am 3) You had items in your trash can that are not permitted, and the lid would not close completely 4) It was not in the designated spot for pick up.  Please refer to the Sanitation page for what is and is not permitted in trash can. Offical Website of Monticello, Utah - SANITATION (evogov.com)

How do I contact the Airport?

Why is my water bill so high?

 If your water bill has gone up a large amount, you may have a leak. It could be a running toilet, faucet dripping, or a broken pipe, etc. If this happens you may qualify for our once-a-year leak forgiveness program. For approval,  The leak has to be fixed, you must fill out the application online or come into our office and fill one out. It will be reviewed and decided how much will be forgiven. This is for culinary or secondary water.

When do they turn secondary water on and off?

The middle of April is when they plan to turn the secondary water on.

The middle of October is when they shut it off. 

Lines are gravity-fed, when they charge the system on a specific day it will take a few days to reach different parts of the valley.

When is the Industrial Well Open?

Springtime is when we have it open. 

When do I need a Blue Stakes?

The Utah Damage to Underground Utility Facilities Act requires anyone engaging in any activity which displaces earth, rock or other material on or below the ground to notify Blue Stakes at least two (2) business days but not more than 14 calendar days prior to excavation. https://www.bluestakes.org/pdfs/Excavators_Guide_EN_2020_modified_hours.pdf 

How do I pay my utility bill?

Create an account with Xpress Bill Pay or come into the Monticello City Office. We are open Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and Friday 8:00 am-12:00 pm. You may also call in at (435) 587-2271 for us to take payment over the phone.

When do I need to get utilities or switch them in someone else's name?

If any of these apply to you, please call the Monticello City Office to set up a utility account. If you are renting your home or property and would like the bill to be under the tenant's name have them, come in to fill out a utility application. If a tenant moves out of the home, please have them notify the city so we can have utilities changed back to the owner of the home and close the renter's account. If you have sold a home call and let the city know so we can close the account.  A lack of contact may result in extra billing for tenant or the owner of the property.
